Piping Process Systems in India
In Piping Engineering it is imperative that one understands Functions of Commonly Used Waterworks and Fittings so that the end product is thorough and error-free. Even the smallest mistakes can cost the plant/industry immense and prove disastrous.
In this blog, let’s look at some of these fittings and learn their use:
Anti-vacuum valve: A valve that opens to intake air if the pressure within the water service goes below atmospheric pressure.
Ball Valve: A valve that controls the entry of water into a storage cistern, closing off the supply when the water level in the tank has reached a predetermined level. It is also known as a ballcock or float-operated valve.

Boiler: An enclosed vessel to heat water by the direct heat application.
Butterfly Valve: A valve in which disc is rotated about a diametric axis of a cylinder to vary the aperture. It is used in limited space or wherever more sophisticated control is required.

Calorifer: A storage vessel in which a supply of water is heated.
Expansion Vessel: A closed vessel that accommodates the thermal expansion of water in a pressurized hot water heating system
Float Switch: A device that incorporates a float that operates a switch in response to changes in the level of a liquid.

Gate Valve: A valve that provides a straight-through passage for the fluid flow of fluid and can be closed by a gate.
Loose Jumper Stopcock: A screw down pattern valve that features a horizontal inlet and outlet connections.
Non-return Valve: A valve prevents reversal of water flow in the pipe using the check mechanism.
Pressure Reducing Valve: A valve that minimizes the pressure of fluid immediately downstream of its position in a pipeline to a preselected value.
Pressure Relief Valve: A self-acting valve that opens automatically to prevent a predetermined safe pressure.
